A Guide To Getting Through A Russian Hacking/Collusion Debate

I’m right there with you; you’re having dinner with your conservative family members and the topic of the Russia investigation comes up.  “What a waste of time,” they say “There’s nothing there. I haven’t heard about it in months”.  Next thing you know, you and your family are having a “friendly” debate.

There ‘s so much to keep track of with this investigation. Every day a new bombshell drops. How do you present your case to your Fox News watching friends that is convinced that all things Russia are #FakeNews?

At times it’s like your conservative family members are burying their head in the sand. Here’s a comprehensive list of arguments your that may come up during a debate along with FACTS to dispute them

1. Mueller is on a political “Witch Hunt”

Bob Mueller is not politically biased. He is not a Democrat. He was appointed FBI Director by George W. Bush in 2001. He was appointed to serve as special counsel by the Trump administration’s own justice department. At the time of his appointment, both Democrats and Republicans applauded his appointment.

2. Mueller is best friends with James Comey

Comey and Mueller were colleagues from their time at the Department of Justice. According to David Kelley, Comey’s attorney, “Jim and Bob are friends in the sense that co-workers are friends. They don’t really have a personal relationship.Jim has never been to Bob’s house and Bob has never been to Jim’s house. They’ve had lunch together once, dinner together twice.”

3. The “snowflakes” are only doing this because Hillary lost

This has NOTHING to do with who won. This has to do with Russia interfering with our democratic process. If Hillary won, there would still be an investigation on Russian interference. We have to find out exactly what happened so this doesn’t happen again.

4. There is no evidence that Russia “hacked” our election. It’s fake news.

The term “hacking the election” they’re thinking of is Russia actually altering vote tallying. While there is no evidence that they manually changed voting numbers, according to an NSA report published on The Intercept “RUSSIAN MILITARY INTELLIGENCE executed a cyberattack on at least one U.S. voting software supplier and sent spear-phishing emails to more than 100 local election officials just days before last November’s presidential election”.

5. Russia didn’t change anyone’s vote

Yes, they did, but not in the way you’re thinking. Russian Intelligence may have convinced many would-be Hillary voters to vote third party or write in Bernie Sanders.

In this election, fake stories on Facebook helped defeat Hillary. Bernie Sanders fans on Facebook were bombarded with sites full of anti-Hillary Clinton propaganda. Stories like the infamous sex parlor in the basement of a pizza shop Clinton ran, were being fed to people who already didn’t like Hillary all that much. Eventually, with all of the fake propaganda they were fed, it went from disliking Hillary to HATING her.

Most recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg admitted that Facebook had sold over $100,000 in ads to Russian companies and fake Russian accounts. Again, if you were on the fence about voting for Hillary, these ads could’ve been the push that kept you from voting.

6. There is no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia

Both Jared Kushner and Donald Trump Jr. testified behind closed doors and their defense was that the Trump campaign was too disorganized to collude with Russia.

While we may never see an email from Donald Trump to Vladimir Putin, thanking him for all the help in the 2016 election, there are so many Russian ties to the campaign that Trump couldn’t sneeze without it landing on Russian intelligence. All they needed was a wink and a nod.

With that being said, here are all of the Trump campaigns known links to Russia.

  •  Donald Trump  – In 2013, Trump held his Miss Universe beauty pageant in Moscow. During the presidential campaign in 2015 and early 2016, his company was pursuing a plan to develop Trump Tower in Moscow. Trump owes Deutsche Bank around $300 million. Deutsche Bank also holds four mortgages on Trump properties. That same bank recently had to pay more than $600 million in penalties for laundering money for Russian entities.
  • Paul Manafort  – The former Trump campaign manager has business connections to Russia and Ukraine. Manafort resigned in August after reports surfaced that suggested he had received $12.7 million from former Ukranian pro-Russia President Victor Yanukovych. The Trump Administration and Manafort have both denied that Manafort ever worked for Russian interests.  Manafort was also present in the infamous Trump Tower meeting with Donald Trump Jr. and Jared Kushner.
  • Michael Flynn  –  The former National Security Advisor resigned after he misled VP Mike Pence about his communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak before Trump’s inauguration. During these meetings, Flynn discussed sanctions with Kislyak imposed by the Obama administration while President Obama was still in office. In 2015 Flynn accepted $33,750 for this speech by RT and did not report the payment.
  • Jared Kushner  –  The President’s son-in-law had four known meetings with Russian officials during the 2016 presidential campaign. The first dating back to  April 2016 at the Mayflower Hotel with Kislyak. Kushner was also present ad Trump Jr.’s meeting with Natalia Veselnitskaya. He initially failed to disclose all of the four meetings from his security clearance form.
  • Donald Trump Jr. – Rob Goldstone set up a meeting with Trump Jr. and Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin under the pretense that they had “official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary”.  If nothing else Trump Jr. was informed that this information was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump”. Six days after Trump Jr.’s meeting Guccifer 2.o (The U.S. intelligence community claims that “Guccifer 2.0″ was an entity operated by the Russian government) made contact with reporter Sam Biddle at gawker.com. In this email, Guccifer to states that he has “100 GB of data” stolen from the DNC. Trump Jr. has stated nothing came from the meeting but could the data Guccifer 2.0 was offering, the data Trump Jr was supposed to receive at the Trump Tower meeting? Or it could have been the Russian government testing the Trump campaign to see how receptive they were to their help.
  • Carter Page – the former Trump foreign policy advisor has been investigated under a FISA warrant since 2014. Page also met with Ambassador  Kislyak during the RNC in Ohio after previously denying ever doing so.
  • Roger Stone – Former advisor to the Trump campaign openly communicates with Guccifer 2.o on Twitter. On August 21st Stone Tweets  that it would soon be Podesta’s “time in the barrel.” and on an October 5th tweet, Stone predicted, “Payload coming #Lockthemup.”  On InfoWars, Stone declared that he a was, “assured the motherlode is coming Wednesday.Days later, Podesta’s e-mails were published on Wikileaks.

7. Why Would Russia Want Trump in Office?

Russia wants sanctions lifted. Hundreds of billions of dollars we lost after the U.S. imposed sanctions against Russia. Most notably between Exxon Mobile and Russian state-run oil giant Rosneft.

Early in Janurary Donald Trump’s personal counsel, Michael Cohen,  is said to have hand-delivered a “peace” plan for Russia and Ukraine to former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The plan involved lifting sanctions on Russia in return for Moscow withdrawing its support for pro-Russia separatists in eastern Ukraine. It would also allow Russia to maintain control over Crimea, which it annexed in 2014.
