Pre-Emptive Post, the Left Won’t Take Away Your Guns

I can see it now, camo-clad, gun-wielding, Larry The Cable Guys running to Walmart in droves to stock up on rifles and bullets. For the next few days be prepared for an onslaught of cable news Second Amendment debates. But don’t fret, no meaningful change will occur in the wake of this tragedy.

This will play out much like the Orlando shooting before and the Sandy Hook shooting before that. You’ll hear the argument from the left that we need stricter gun control laws. You’ll hear arguments from the right that the right to keep and bear arms is protected by the Constitution.

In this country, Americans own an estimated 265 million guns. Half of those guns belong to 9.6 million adults (these owners have between eight and 140 guns each). There are an estimated 55 million total gun owners in the United States. So out of 55 million people who own guns, there have been 33,636 gun related deaths so there is a .07%  that owning a gun will cause a fatality. Seems perfectly safe, right?

There were 118 million people who own cars in the United States and 32,675 deaths from automobile accidents in the United States so there is a .028%  that owning a car will cause a fatality.

So if owning a gun is deadlier than owning a car, why in every state do you need a license to drive and need your car to be registered whereas in some states you need neither a license or registration to own a gun. There is no gun owners exam. You can go hunting and have a six pack but cannot drink and drive. All most liberals ask is that we treat owning a gun with the same reverences as owning a car.

Gun ownership should be a privilege, not a right. If you are mentally unfit, you should not be allowed near one. You should have to register it in every state. And (like cars) some should only be allowed to have if you are in the military. (Citizens can own planes but can’t own F-16s. The same principle applies here).

In Nevada, it is legal to purchase an AR-15 semi-automatic, (the same gun that was used in the Orlando nightclub shooting). You don’t need a license to own a or register your gun. Nevada has some of the laxest gun laws in the United States.

The entire quote from the  constitution reads:

A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

The Constitution does not say that the people of our country need guns for self-defense. The Constitution also doesn’t say that citizens have the right to own machine guns, which is why every state has different laws pertaining to firearms and machine guns.

In 1791, the year the Second Amendment was written, civilian Militia provided security for the people. The country civilian supported Militia because they won the Revolutionary war from the British. In the post WWI era, the National Guard plays the role that the local Militia had.

The NRA has the most powerful lobbying group in Washington and as of this post, 58 civilians are dead in Las Vegas.
